About Me

Since ‘99 I have Classically Home Schooled my 2 boys—in this photo ScienceKid (SK) and I have just hiked 11 miles to the 2nd highest mountain in the Adirondecks, and have 4 miles more to hike. I enjoy being outside; hiking, kayaking, camping, gardening, swimming, and traveling, and use a combination of book-learning, and hands-on learning to Classically educate my sons.
After working as an engineer for twenty-years in male-dominated research labs and manufacturing, even obtaining several patents, publishing quite a few technical papers, presenting research work at national conventions to my peers, and teaching Statistics at night, I now find myself in the most challenging and fulfilling position ever.
If anyone had informed me 15 years ago that I would be homeschooling my children today I would have told them that was a ridiculous idea. While I hold a BS and MS in Engineering, an MBA and have taught college courses, I was under the false idea that a person needed an Education degree to teach children. After the public school failed my oldest I turned to homeschooling as a means to meet his educational needs. I also soon discovered that rarely do I teach my children but instead guide them in their learning, provide them with materials, coach them, facilitate their learning, and learn with them.
My sons are or soon will be traveling through their teenage years; a journey that I am reluctantly going through. My oldest, SK is now in 11th grade and his science passion drives him, constantly. My second son, Military Kid (MK) is in 7th grade and he is driven by all things military.
Come, enjoy the journey with us!!
