Need some well-wishes
We had our visit to the Neuro-ophthalmic Dr today. First we met with this very nice intern who insisted talking with Mark — it was cute and I do like it when the Dr is asking the kid the questions. After all it is his eyes and he knows what he is seeing. Then the Dr came in and went over all the ’stuff’ again before having Mark’s eyes dilated.
What prompted this visit was that in October Mark was color blind in just his right-eye and now it’s his left. Strange. It is on his chart as his right eye, he remembers seeing things as just gray from his right eye in September…..
30 minutes later we went back in where the intern looked again and declared that everything was fine and dandy. Then the Dr, with all the citations neuro-optic surgery came in and looked. Mark’s optic nerve is thinner than it should be, and he noted a few other abnormalities with the nerves too. The intern quickly took a double-look into Mark’s eyes.
The Dr ordered an MRI which hasn’t been scheduled yet…..he told me that it has probable been like this since birth but we need to rule out whether ’something’ is pushing against the optic nerve. We went out to the scheduling area and sat down…..yada, yada, yada, the clerk tries to get us scheduled for the MRI, when she says to the person on the other end—-”I need approval for this MRI so we can see if there is a MASS in this patient.”
And that is what I’m thinking about this evening.

We’ll be keeping you and Mark in our prayers. I know how scary it can be, especially for the mom. We had an incident like this with Kyle where the doctors thought he had a malformation of his brain stem - it turned out to be nothing. Hang in there!
