Stupid Policy

Tonight for some reason I received an email from a hs’ing mom who is a member in one of my local support groups.  She was inquiring as to whether she could renew her membership since she just graduated her youngest and the child is off to college.  She would like to stay in the loop and help out, now that her youngest is out of the house.

This homeschool support group, like other organizations, has an array of policies.  One policy I find really, really stupid.  It seems that when a family graduates their last hs’er they are no longer permitted to remain as members.

That’s right.  If you are an experienced homeschooler, one who has taken your child(ren) through the high school years, and through the college application process,  and graduated your last child,  you are not permitted to be a member of their support group.  I find the policy absolutely stupid and their reason for having it even more stupid.

It seems that once upon a time some person got their hands on the membership list and started soliciting members.   Their wise logical argument was that if a person has graduated their last child then they have time on their hands.  And if they have time on their hands then they will solicit present members to buy a product or invest in some business or …..     Hmmm, assumptions can be incorrect people.

Or is their logical argument more along the lines; if we do not have homeschooling moms experienced with schooling through high school and the college application process and who have time on their hands available for other moms to tap into then our members will be forced to join our satellite schools.  If they join our satellite school then we will make more money so we will keep hs’ing mom’s experienced with hs’ing through high school and with the college application game and with time on their hands out of our little support group.  Yep, follow the money……

And why do these folks, year after year email me? Maybe it is because I refuse to join one of the satellite schools.  I choose instead to turn to the internet, to make cyber friends who are there to help me through this maze, who are there to support me as my oldest moves through high school, and <gulp.> on to college.  Thank you, I’d be lost without you!

Gotta love some of the policies. Let’s start our own satellite! I’ve got plans… bwahahaha!

If it wasn’t for the experienced moms, I don’t think I would have known what to do — especially with P as my first student!
