Frugal Friday Idea
I had a great thing happen to me on my last shopping trip ham’s were on sale, 1/2 price sale. So instead of the full ham being $34 something it was $17 something. At the register my clerk was running things quickly through the scanner and I wasn’t really watching. After paying the bill I realized that I hadn’t watched the scanned price so I glanced over my register tape. Just about every item I purchased was on some type of Super-Saver-Sale.
Then I saw the price on the ham, $34, and no discount, you saved this much $xx was listed. I walked over to the Customer Service desk and pointed out the item’s full price verses the label’s price. She smiled, walked to the register and then handed me $34 and some change. Yes, the item was free, she told me, since it was scanned incorrectly. She then called back to the meat department alerting them to the fact that their ham’s were ringing in at full price and to get the problem corrected! Pronto!
Happily I walked away and thought about this great Frugal idea; shop on the first day of the grocery stores flier, with all their sale items, and double-check your receipt closely. Maybe you too can discover some item that isn’t at the flier’s price and then you’ll get it for free too.
The other approach that I use quite frequently is to go to the food store very early on Monday or Tuesday morning. I just shop the meat isle looking for meats that they wanted sold over the weekend but for some reason the meat didn’t sell. My grocery marks them down by 50% to 70%! Just another way to make those grocery dollars go a bit further.
