A day out on the water
I am so sore! SK pushed for us to go kayaking and canoing today, and since it looked so beautiful I agreed. I love being outside, and doing something active outside so I’m rather easy to convince to go on some outdoor adventure. We first checked out the Blackbird Creek but I felt the tide was rushing past the put-in point just a bit too strong for my liking. We drove on to the Smyrna River put-in as marked on the map only to find it did not exist so we drove on down to the next possible put-in.
We found the spot and put in. Ahh, I do like tidal rivers. We let the tide carry us upstream and paddled a bit without expending too much effort. In 2hrs we were 5miles upstream, out of drinking water
, and all decided it would be best to turn around rather then explore all the little side-streams. The Kingfishers were there to lead our way back downstream. I found a spot for us to switch boats and as DH said, ‘let the boys learn teamwork by canoeing together.’ It is really fun to listen to them work together as they paddle the canoe. SKl has read all about ‘how to paddle’ and is always wanting to share his expertise with MK. I have found that this is how SK learns; not by watching, but by reading and then doing, and he did a great job expressing how to paddle to MK. As an ex-whitewater canoe and kayaker I’m really not bias
Thankfully we had timed it just right and soon the tide had reversed and was carrying us back downstream and non-to-soon we were at the take-out, However the tidal flow was now really strong and we all nearly got taken out to the Delaware Bay. That would not have been good but we were able to make it out with just a bit of tidal mud on our clothes, shoes, hands, paddles,……
But I am so beat, and tired from being out in the sun, on the water. Good day.

That sounded like so much fun. I love canoing, but we are low on good spots where I am at. My favorite time is in the fall when it is still a little warm on the sunny days. Aaahhhh.
